SINGLE ENGINE AIRPLANE
Single Engine Airplane was the first recording project of Joe Chang. It was the first music project that actually manifested into collaborating and recording with other musicians.
The recording of SEA's first LP, Plastic and Ground Floors, took place in May of 2005 in Asheville, NC, in John, Joe, and Aubrey's home on a cassette 4-track.
Joe conceptualized and wrote songs for the album while on some anti-psychotic medication that left him sitting at the kitchen table for hours on end. He discovered the name "Single Engine Airplane" in a movie he rented at the time; a written prologue at the beginning had the name in a sentence, and Joe paused the tape because he liked the way the words all looked together. Then he pushed play again, and watched as Lucky Lindy flew over the sea.
Other SEA recordings: 1) Self-Titled (Demo). 2) Flying Actresses (EP). 3) Three Songs recorded in John's Parent's Basement (Demo).
Fellow Musicians: John Ferrer played drums on P and GF; Aubrey Curtis played cello and violin; Greg Hudgins added left handed Bass. Addison Brown currently plays drums, Adam Cullum sometimes makes it to shows to wander on and add trombone, guitar, other stuff. You can hear some songs here: myspace.com/singleengineairplane. |
